Creates a Rogers Park bike network providing east-west and north-south bike lanes across the Ward on Touhy, Rogers, and Ashland
This proposal boosts safety and encourages bike use for commuters and families in the 49th Ward by creating an integrated Rogers Park Bike Network of 4.35 miles of bike lanes.
The proposal for the first time creates east-west and north-south bike connections linking various parts of the ward to each other and important community resources: Loyola Beach, existing bike routes south to the Lakefront, Evanston, several shopping and restaurants clusters, and areas near Ridge Avenue.
The bike lane network would facilitate access to CTA stations in the ward.
49th Ward residents are asked to vote to approve the use of menu funds for bike lanes on the following streets:
These menu moneys would be used to supplement the bike lane planned by the City on Morse from Clark to the lake.
Together, these bike lanes would create one of the most comprehensive bike-friendly networks in any Chicago ward. The Transportation Committee proposes these safety and quality-of-life improvements as Phase 1 of the Rogers Park Bike Network, which could be supplemented in future years.
