Are you interested in improving public safety? Dog Friendly Areas (a.k.a. DFA or dog parks) have proven effective in reducing crime and fostering positive and responsible use of public space. The northeast corner of Pottawatomie Park, in particular, is an ideal candidate for this type of revitalization. Located a few steps away from the Jordan Community Grammar School, the proposed DFA site is currently the host to questionable loitering and drinking in a corner of the park that is flanked by an alley on one side and the Metra tracks on the other. By providing a designated and enclosed space for responsible adults to exercise their dogs, not only will we reduce the number of “off leash” dogs in our parks, but this currently volatile space can be transformed into a focal point for healthy and vibrant community interaction.
