I live in hope that in this 3rd year of Participatory Budgeting, we will finally be able to get enough suppport to repair these sidewalks badly in need:
1)East side of Claremont between Touhy and Chase
2)South side of Chase between Oakley and Claremont
I don’t own property there but I walk a mile every day and these are on my route .At my age it would be much easier if I didn’t have to watch my step so carefully.
For sure I will try to get folks out and voting for this. I have a hunch lots of people in Rogers Park think Sidewalks got a big part of the budget the first year, so don’t think to vote “sidewalk repair” now.

The alley behind the Nathalie Salmon House, which houses disabled, seniors and disabled children of families is in desperate need of resurfacing. The alley is west of Sheridan Rd. between Sherwin and Chase. It is dangerous for our population, as they fear falling and wheelchairs cannot dodge or get through the mammoth potholes. Traffic speeds through this alley without regard to pedestrians and dogwalkers.
The METRA fence-line along Ravenswood (both sides) makes for a highly unattractive walk to the Rogers Park station. With the recent implementation of the murals on the METRA underpasses, it seems to make sense that the effort would be continued along the track. The high metal fences and tall weed growth along the tracks hamper the overall development of the neighborhood. A solid aesthetic solution should be considered for this area.
Also, the length of Clark between Devon and Touhy has tremendous potential to become a strong retail artery in the area, but an emphasis towards zoning (consistent building frontage) and pedestrian experience (ie. plantings and trees) needs to be examined. Clark is slowly turning, but real emphasis needs to be placed in this portion of Rogers Park. The recent changes (last 10 years) in Andersonville are a prime example of excellent results, born from thoughtful planning.
It wouldd be nice to have a solid table for table tennis play installed in Loyola park. The surface could be matallic or smooth cement to withstand moisture.
I would like to see the restoration of the cobble-stone street on Glenwood (west of the Red Line) from Touhy to Farwell.
This section of Glenwood also overlaps the Glenwood Arts District and, for the most part, it is still in use, just not restored. There are patches of old asphalt over some sections. The recent street scape renovation has helped to define the section to be completed.
Cobblestone is extremely long lasting and adds to the beauty of this area — most of this corridor is business-centric so it would make a great candidate and the charm of the arts district and continuing draws to these businesses will only enhance this section of Rogers Park.
I would like to add a few blocks north on Wolcott, I see Pratt to Lunt on the list (#14. 6800 – 6950 N Wolcott (Pratt Ave to Lunt Ave) but its really bad all the way to Pottawatomie Park (North to Rogers) at LEAST to Touhy. The way the workers “patch” the holes here and there make it worse that it is before they touched them. They plop mounds of asphalt (?) and then hang out for another hr and leave. No smoothing, no rolling, or even stamping. So where once there was a hole, now there is a 4 inch bump.
The street resurfacing done last year is beautiful, I hope that crew is available for future projects!!
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Street Resurface
1750-1900 block of Estes
it is ghastly!!!
I don’t know if this qualifies. Has anyone driven Fargo from Ashland to Paulina recently? The potholes have potholes.
Just an observation.
I am sorry I miss most meetings. I have several suggestions.
1. Solar panels on the L stops (for lighting and other electrical needs.
2. Solar hot water heaters at the park fieldhouses and bath houses
3. Green roof for Loyola Park fieldhouse
4. Non light-polluting street lights for east of Sheridan (light only goes down.
5. Non light polluting lights for Loyola Park
6. Start the process of turning the property at the end of Albion into a park – pull down the fence, tear up the asphalt, seed.
7. Purchase the land of the former synagogue on Pratt. I know it is too much money for this project, but perhaps there is a lease to buy, or the Park District would cost share.
Re – Curbing & sidewalk widening @ Rogers Park Fruit Market – Jarvis/Clark/Rogers
Remove all diagonal parking – widen sidewalk – install curbs.
Reason: Diagonal parked cars back out into eastbound traffic on Jarvis causing back-up of oncoming east bound cars onto Clark Street – traffic jams – danger danger danger
Fruit Market has off street parking lot. Customers are too lazy to use it. Prefer diagonal street side parking. Sidewalk is too narrow.
Possible to allow a few parking spaces parallel to curb east of Fruit Market Door. No parking at all west of Fruit Market door to prevent traffic backing up onto Clark Street

I’ve noticed the parking lot filling up more recently, but the diagonal parking is still dangerous with the increased traffic there. Its great that the local shop has been able to expand, but the city need adjust to accommodate i believe.
