Come learn about the history of participatory budgeting from two of the foremost experts on the topic, Brown University Prof. Gianpaolo Baiocchi and Josh Lerner, doctoral candidate at the New School for Social Research. Find out about the first incarnation of participatory budgeting in Porto Algre, Brazil in 1989 & about more recent efforts, including the ongoing participatory budgeting process here in Rogers Park. They will consider as well the promises & the potential pitfalls of this process in fomenting a more democratic form of governance.
